JDAte Review: JDate is one of those more credible dating websites around, and they’re the go-to website for Jewish Dating. They connect Jewish Singles around the world, and guarantees that they have a greater relationship and marriage success that other dating sites.
In the Jewish tradition, there is the concept of ‘Shidduch’, which pretty much just means arranged marriage. To keep up with the times, and to give control to the young Jews of their relationships instead of mere tradition, JDate is now playing the modern ‘Shidduch’ role.
JDate has a companion community/publication called JLife that provides advice and guidance for dating and relationship.
Signing up to JDate will require your email address, a nominated password, your first name, birthday and location.
Otherwise, using your Facebook credentials to register an account is also available if you don’t want to spend time having to fill in all the details for your profile.
You will be requested to upload an image – which will be reviewed by the website’s team.
Typical profile information will be asked regarding your physical appearance, living conditions, education, and since this is a Jewish dating site – your religion.
A selection of different hobbies, interests, and preferences will then be displayed prompting you to choose whichever of those you enjoy.
Upon completing the registration process. JDate will then request you to subscribe to their paid services. It is ok if you don’t.
There’s also an option to complete your profile with even more details about your preferences and interests, or just go straight to the sea and start scouting for fishes by clicking Browse Now.
The default page is the Browse Now page where potential matches’ profiles are arranged neatly in a grid with their name, age, location, height, religion and the % of a match to your profile. You have the option to view the potential matches based on the percentage of the match to you, their location, or view those who recently joined the network or those who are online.
There is a LookBook portion under the Browse tab where you can find a profile summary and headshot and judge whether you like or dislike the matched member.
Clicking on the envelope icon will let you see messages you’ve received. The heart icon will show those who matched with you. I.e., the people whose profiles you liked and liked your profile back.
The charts icon will show a list of people you viewed and liked for easy bookmarking and those who viewed your profile.
JDate yearns to establish credibility to their market, and that comes with a caveat. Sending messages, showing your full profile, those are all only available if you subscribe a.k.a. become a paid member. There are two tiers of paid membership.
There are two tiers of paid membership.
The Basic subscription is available for $39.99 for one month or $19.99 per month if you choose the 6-month validity. Basic paid members can send and receive messages, get read receipts, and browse anonymously. Another feature is controlling your online status from Browse and Matches – so you don’t get bombarded with messages when you’re already chatting with someone else. This ensures quality
Premium paid membership will cost you $59.99 for one month or $29.99 per month under the 6-month package. It has the same inclusions as the Basic subscription, plus Messaging+ where the member can send messages that can be read and replied to by all members, regardless of their subscription status
Messaging+ is a great feature that will allow the member higher reach as their messages can be read and replied to even by those without a paid subscription.
The match percentage aspect allows the users to see how much they have in common with other members. This is an insightful feature that lets the members know and quantify so to speak the level of compatibility between two individuals.
JDAte Review: Bottomline
If there’s one thing you’ll get a sense of with JDate, it is that it is credible, safe and legit. The fact that they even went as far as the lengths of commissioning an independent study on the success of Jewish marriages that started online.
Their Online Safety page is not just a matter of templated legal list. It is instead written with the intention of wanting to be read – to make sure their members are safe.
Messaging may be paid but that is also one way of weeding out the ‘unwanteds’ and make sure that they have a credible and legit selection of singles.
If you’re a Jew, or of Jewish descent looking for a relationship – or is considering converting to Judaism, JDate is your best bet.
